“Oprah’s Next Chapter” Secures Exclusive Interview With Mother Who Confessed to Murdering Her Two Sons

Los Angeles, CA – Oprah Winfrey has secured an exclusive interview with Shaquan Duley, a mother who confessed to murdering her two young sons, as part of “Oprah’s Next Chapter” Sunday, April 1 (9-10 p.m. ET/PT) on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.

In her first television interview, taking place one week before her sentence is announced, Shaquan Duley will sit face to face with Oprah Winfrey behind bars at the Orangeburg-Calhoun Detention Center in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Duley has been held without bond for nearly two years waiting to learn her fate.

During her interview with Duley, Winfrey will ask the mother why she killed her two innocent children, and will also talk to Duley’s mother Helen and her sister Adrian, who originally told their story to Winfrey on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” in September 2010 one month after Duley’s arrest. Winfrey will also meet and talk to Saniya, Duley’s 7-year-old daughter.

In a story that made national news headlines, Winfrey will revisit what happened in the early morning hours of August 16, 2010. According to her confession and police reports, 29-year-old Shaquan Duley shared a home with her mother Helen, and younger sister Adrian. After an argument, Duley stormed out of her house taking her two sons, 2-year-old Devean and 18-month-old Ja’van, but leaving her 5 year old daughter Saniya behind. Police say Duley checked into an Orangeburg motel where she smothered her sons to death by placing her hands over their mouth and nose.

Then, police say, Duley buckled her sons’ bodies in their car seats and drove to a rural boat ramp 15 miles away, driving her car into The River where it began to sink. Once the car was submerged she exited the vehicle, leaving the bodies of her two sons inside. Duley then flagged down a passing motorist claiming she had an accident and her children were underwater. When police arrived, they say they were suspicious of Duley’s story as there were no signs of a crash. Frantically, divers searched for the car and ultimately recovered the bodies of the two young boys. Investigators say Duley confessed to the murders and the cover up. On March 16, 2012, during a plea hearing, Duley pled guilty to two counts of murder and begged for forgiveness from her family, the community and the judge. Duley now faces 60 years to life in prison for the murders.

Being Flynn: Robert De Niro Makes One Hell of a Moron! /flynn-robert-de-niro-hell-moron/ /flynn-robert-de-niro-hell-moron/#comments Sun, 25 Mar 2012 12:13:53 +0000 Alex Tucker /?p=24307

Robert De Niro Makes One Hell of a Moron!

Not Just Another Bulls*#t Night In Suck City

By Larissa Rzemienski – Resident Hollywood Psychoanalyst

The movie “Being Flynn” is not just “Another Bulls*#t Night In Suck City,” in fact it is pretty damn suck-tastic. I mean fantastic! Robert De Niro does an incredible job of playing the homeless father, err “sperm donor” to his “son,” played by Paul Dano. Jonathan Flynn (De Niro), father of Nick Flynn (Dano), constantly remarks that he should write a book about his life called, “Memoirs of a Moron” each time he reflects on the sad state that he’s found himself in. In fact De Niro did such an incredible job of playing a homeless person that he was even turned away from the infamous Greenwich Hotel (which he co-owns) because he was not even recognized by the security staff there.

I watched the movie in Scottsdale, Arizona and was shocked to find out that this movie is literally playing in just one theater in this area. As of March 18, 2012 the movie has grossed just over $266,000.  This too shocks me! It is an incredible movie with amazing potential. Sure I have a deep respect for the small artsy films, but, damn, this film needs to be making some dough!

The story of Jonathan Flynn and his son, Nick Flynn is an incredible story, and I think that anyone can relate to the many themes in this story. Whether you have gone through any difficult family or personal issues of your own, I can almost guarantee that you will shed a tear. The movie gives a very realistic depiction of homelessness, drug addiction, suicide, criminality, and single parenting. But don’t worry; there is plenty of humor and amazing dialogue to give you a break between the tears.

I could completely relate to Julianne Moore’s character Jody Flynn every time she told her son, “If it were up your ass.” I, too, am a single mom and I have an incredibly humorous, yet enormous potty mouth when I am around my daughter. I am not the type of mom that shields my child from the potty words. Nick Flynn would say, “Mom I can’t find” this or that.  Jody Flynn would reply in a cute way, “Well if it were up your ass…” I think that being a single parent almost brings your relationship closer to an adult-adult relationship, rather than an adult-child relationship.

What really stands out for me in this movie is the quick descent into homelessness that the character played by Robert De Niro displays. When I ask my psychology students to explore their biggest fear, one of the fears that pop up often is “running out of money” or “being homeless.”  Sure, the creatures are huge fears too, the piranhas, the sharks, spiders, and snakes.  But what really seems to stand out is, “I am afraid that I could lose my job and eventually run out of money. I am afraid of becoming homeless.”

When my students talk about their fear of becoming homeless, I let them know that it is also one of my biggest fears.  Sure I have college degrees and plenty of money stashed away, but the notion of “losing it all” is always at the back of my mind for some reason.  One car accident, one major health problem, or simply mental illness could take away all financial freedoms.

Without completely ruining the story, Jonathan Flynn loses everything when he gets drunk and crashes his taxi.  He ends up running into his son, Nick Flynn, when he has to check into the local homeless shelter, The Harbor Street Inn. We all have our own personal views on homelessness, but this movie really helps us all to explore the deeper causes of homelessness.

I am really not surprised that so many of my university psychology students cite “homelessness” as their biggest fear.  With the unemployment rate being so high, and so many people living paycheck to paycheck, homelessness could be a single job loss away.

Thankfully I can tell you that this movie ends up with a fairly happy ending. Well at least as happy as you could expect with a crazy, alcoholic father and a deceased mother (Oops I let that one slip didn’t I?) But what should really get you to go see this movie is the incredible acting of Robert De Niro. Every time he started his monologues, I was literally on the edge of my seat!

De Niro’s comedy was priceless as he told the shelter, “Up Yours Harbor Street” or told numerous people to “f#%ing shut up!” But he also did a tremendous job of providing incredible quotes, such as “Life is gathering material,” or explaining the fact that you, “can’t kill somebody with words.” The dialogue especially that of De Niro, is seriously breathtaking. And even when you expect that he is going to be found dead on the streets, is experiencing frostbite, or is drunk off his a*#, he still responds in a sensational manner.

From a psychological perspective, I think this movie hit the nail right on the head. It accurately portrays drug abuse, self-help groups, and homelessness. It also brings about the message that you can’t choose your family, but you have to do the best with what you have.

Nurse 3-D Will Raise Your Temperature /nurse-3-d-raise-temperature/ /nurse-3-d-raise-temperature/#comments Sat, 24 Mar 2012 22:33:29 +0000 Alex Tucker /?p=24292

Nurse 3-D Will Raise Your Temperature

by Larissa Rzemienski

Our Resident Hollywood Psychoanalyst

Hospital hotties and naughty nurses get almost everyone’s temperatures rising each Halloween.  It is no surprise to see the sexy nurse uniform ranked as the hottest Halloween costume year after year. Providing that the movie Nurse 3-D is released prior to the end of the Mayan calendar, men and women who love their hospital hotties and naughty nurses are in for quite a surprise!

Nurse 3-D, a Lionsgate film, will leave absolutely nothing to the imagination. Each gruesome and sexy moment will be shown in its full 3-D glory. Combining some of the predominate themes of ER, Dexter, and Monster, this movie revolves around the story of Abby, the nurse who seems normal by day but kills off the philandering men by night.

And if you are a testosterone lover do not despair, this movie is not just about the naughty nurses.  Leaving his High School Musical days well behind him, Corbin Bleu will be dropping his drawers (or scrubs) to show off the muscles he built shooting 3 pointers. His innocent days are long gone now as he has been staving off the breads and pasta to get those glutes of his in awesome shape! Young Corbin Bleu does not want to disappoint his movie goers. In a recent interview with US Magazine, Corbin states, “You see my rear end. It’s tasteful. It’s done well.”

Katrina Bowden, also starring in Nurse 3-D, has seen a fair share of blood.  Not only will she be trying to put an end to crazy nurse Abby, she will also be fighting for her life in the movie Piranha 3DD.  Katrina has been getting into top form for these big screen 3-D movies with kickboxing, spinning, and yoga.  Trust me, Katrina; I would be doing all of that too, if not more, if I had to appear in a 3-D movie half naked.

So what is the appeal of the sexy nurse in our culture? Most men report that this costume is one of the sexiest around. One male rated it as a 1.5 million on a scale of 1- 10 because he noted having an incredible experience when his girlfriend donned her costume. The nurse symbolizes the caretaker and the healer of all wounds. What girlfriend or wife hasn’t reported that her significant other is a “big baby” when he is not feeling well. Masculinity seems to completely go out the window when men get sick, and they want to resort to being a child again.

Psychologist Carl Jung would have explained the naughty nurse costume as being the “persona” or the “shadow” of the female. The “persona” is what other people see us as, and what we already display to the entire world. The “shadow” is the darker side of us. The shadow may have some sexual or inappropriate elements in it. Each Halloween we are allowed to show off our shadow. The naughty nurse outfit may be showing the sexual side that we repress the other 364 days of the year. Or perhaps the nurse costume is chosen to enhance the “persona” of being somebody who nurtures and cares for others.  Either way, men hoot and holler for this one.

It is also interesting to note that the vast majority of nurse uniforms incorporate the color red. If you wish to see this for yourself, do a quick Google Image search for “sexy Halloween nurse outfits.”  A recent study in the Journal of Experimental Psychology showed that women who wear the color red appear much more sexually receptive to males. Since males viewed these females as being more receptive to sexual advances, the men were also more attracted to them. Interestingly the love affair with the color red applies to humans and non-human primates. Note to single women everywhere: Wear red!

But what really gets my attention about this movie is the fact that the idea came about because of a series of fetish-inspired nurse photos that are said to be shot by Lionsgate’s co-head of marketing, Tim Palen. To see these photos for yourself just do a quick Google Image search of “Saw VI blood drive posters.” Interesting to say the least, no?

Does the creative visionary behind Nurse 3-D have a psychiatric disorder? In all actuality the vast majority of people have some form of fetish, but they choose to repress it or at least keep it in the bedroom.  In some ways we could give a “bravo” because Tim Palen is brave enough to truly express himself through this artistic medium. True abnormality does not exist unless the fetish causes distress in the person’s relationship, career, or personal life.  For example, if a man went home each night and absolutely demanded that his wife don her sexy nurse uniform, and it caused a marital riff, then psychological treatment may be called for.

I don’t want to pick on the men entirely here. So let’s say your local soccer mom kept missing work to check out Corbin in Nurse 3-D. Before she knows it her employer fires her. Yes, she too may need some psychological assistance.

The big question is, what are your thoughts on Nurse 3-D? Will you be watching it on the big screen?

But Jamie still has some star power and like a cat she has landed on her feet. is reporting Pressly has nabbed a new gig over at NBC. She will be playing a warden at a female prison in the pilot comedy “Bad Girls”. Other cast members include Amy Smart and Karolina Wydra — didn’t know they had hot women like that in prison, but whatever. Apparently it’s a UK adaptation being done by John Wells and Warner Bros.
