Stephen Colbert explains his sudden absence from “The Colbert Report”.

Last week fans who had tickets to the live recording of “The Colbert Report” were disappointed to learn that Thursday’s and Friday’s shows were scratched. Shortly after the news broke, it became a national story. We all know Mr. Colbert  occasionally goes over the top and some feared he was being punished by Comedy Central and others even thought the show had been cancelled. People wondered if there was a rift between him and the network, because just a few weeks ago he was basically forced to shut down his Super PAC. The rumor mill was trending, but it seems that no one had the story right. Then this weekend some actual news was reported. Colbert had taken the sudden leave of absence to be by his sick mothers side. The 91 year old mother of 11 had fallen ill, but she seems to be all right now and Colbert was back at his desk on Monday with this to say:
